Northern Highland - American Legion State Forest

Interpretive Program

NH-AL Crystal Lake Nature Center

The Northern Highland American Legion State has an outstanding nature center at the Crystal Lake Campground in Sayner, WI, which includes a variety of educational displays and activities for the entire family. Within the NH-AL, there are also five interpretive trails for those who would like to take a self-guided tour of the forest landscape. The trails traverse varied terrain and expose visitors to a wide range of natural habitats.

Beginning in July, naturalist programming on the Northern Highland American Legion State Forest will be reduced due to limitations of the State Budget. Public programs at the Crystal Lake Nature Center will be limited to a few "as announced" events for the balance of the camping season.

Instead of our usual July and August programs, volunteer hosts will be on duty daily in the Nature Center, except Monday, to share information about local interpretive and educational opportunities with visitors.

We are planning an exhibit of Northwoods nature-based education, summer program and events calendars, brochures, and information will be available to share with our campers and visitors.

Crystal Lake Nature Center Hours:
Tuesday - Saturday: 10:00 am - 4:00 pm
and Sunday: 10 am - 1 pm

In light of our reduced program schedule, please send your nature-related questions and education inquiries to Bob Dall. Bob is an experienced naturalist who currently works with state forest master plans in the Division of Forestry.
