Help for Using Air Permit Search
The following is a detailed help guide for using the Air Permit Search tool.
Information & Tips
- Select at least one search term in order to perform a search.
- Use combinations of search terms to refine your search.
- FID stands for Facility Identification number.
- Entries “Facility Name” and “Street Address” are not case sensitive.
- Entries “Facility Name” and “Street Address” are sensitive to periods, hyphens and spaces.
- You can use portions of numbers or text when searching by FID, Facility Name or Street Address. The default setting for these types of searches is “Starts with”. This setting can be changed to “Contains” or “Exact Match” by checking the button in front of these choices.
- You can choose a beginning and/or end date when searching by permit milestone or activity date.
- Permit milestones are the dates for key events that occur during the permit issuance process:
- Permit application was received in full
- Permit application was found to be complete
- Start of public comment period
- EPA notified draft permit is posted to the web
- DNR issues permit
- Check your search terms if the results aren’t what you expect.
Search Results
Your search results will appear in a table at the bottom of the search page. Check the box in the first column of the table to go to a new page to see specific information about that company.
Information & Tips
- A record will be returned for each permit that matches your search term(s). Therefore you will see the same company listed multiple times if they have multiple permits that match your search term(s).
- Only the first 15 records are displayed in the table. Use the scroll bar at the right side of the table to move up and down to see more records.
- Records are listed by FID number in ascending order. You can sort the table by clicking on any of the column headings. Clicking again on the heading reverses the sort order. Please be patient when sorting hundreds or thousands of records. It may appear that the system has stopped responding. The more records you have, the longer it will take to sort.
- Use additional search terms to reduce the number of records returned.
Facility Information, Contacts and Documents
Selecting a record in the search results table will take you to a new web page displaying specific information about the business. This is a dynamic page that will grow in length and display additional information when you select a specific air pollution control permit.
The top portion of the page displays location information, brief description of the business, and facility and DNR air contacts.
The Permits and Permit Applications table is where you can select specific permits. Clicking on the word “Select” in the first column of the table will open up two additional tables that will display associated documents and milestones. Clicking on the word “Download” in the first column of the table will give you the choice to either view or save a copy of that document.
Information & Tips
- A scroll bar at the right side of any table indicates that additional records are present. Use it to move up and down to see the additional records.
- You can sort any table by clicking on the column headings. Clicking again on the heading reverses the sort order.
- You need to have the appropriate software installed on your computer. Adobe Reader to view documents with filenames ending in .PDF. Microsoft Word or Word Viewer to view documents with filenames ending in .DOC.
