  • Run only full loads in the dishwasher. One full load uses 1/2 the energy of two partial loads. And set the dishwasher to air dry.
  • When hand washing dishes, do not run rinse water continuously.
  • Wash only full loads of laundry, clean the dryer lint trap after each load or use a clothesline to air dry clothes.
  • Have your furnace and central air conditioner inspected and serviced annually. Replace filters on furnaces and air conditioners regularly. A dirty filter slows down air flow and makes the system work harder. And a clean filter keeps dirt from building up and can save costly repairs.
  • Programmable thermostat set at 68 degrees FahrenheitInstall a programmable thermostat to adjust your temperature automatically at night and when you are not home (or do so manually).
  • Paint with a brush, not a sprayer
  • Buy paints with low volatile organic compound (VOC) content for indoor and outdoor painting jobs
