HydrogeologistHydrogeologist positions occur in a number of DNR programs with specific work objectives dependent on the program area. We seek creative, service-oriented individuals to join a team of professional employees dedicated to protecting and enhancing our natural resources. We employ individuals who can communicate positively with a variety of customer groups. DutiesSite investigations, responsible party negotiations, contractor clean-up oversight, project management, and plan review for new and existing land application or waste disposal facilities. Other duties may include evaluating soil and groundwater monitoring systems at land application or waste disposal facilities, investigating spills and other groundwater contamination problems, and assisting environmental staff with evaluating groundwater monitoring data or research. Required Technical Knowledge, Skills and AbilitiesGeological, hydrogeological, and environmental aspects of land application or waste disposal facility site selection and design. Hydrogeologic and chemical principles controlling the fate of potential environmental contaminants from unauthorized waste disposal, land application, or waste disposal spills. Environmental monitoring, sampling techniques, and groundwater quality standards. Hydrogeologic concepts related to investigating and clean-up of contamination incidents. Geological, hydrogeological, and environmental aspects of water supply well site selection, design, planning, and policy may be required. Effective communication skills. Desired TrainingGraduation from a college or university with major courses in hydrogeology plus biological, chemical, environmental, or life sciences.
