Places to Take Kids Fishing in Wisconsin

Below is list of selected spots to take kids fishing throughout Wisconsin. Arranged by county, it was prepared by your local Department of Natural Resource (DNR) fish biologists. This list is not exhaustive; merely suggestive. Nearly all of the spots have shorefishing; many are located in parks with picnic and restroom facilities. Groups might also be interested in finding out about DNR's Fishing Equipment Loaner Program.

  • Children should be accompanied by a responsible adult(s).
  • Locations and directions are general. If you are unfamiliar with the area, consult a current local map.
  • Contact parks to confirm hours, seasons of operation and possible fees.
  • Be familiar with current fishing regulations and license requirements.
  • Be sure to consult the urban fishing rules in the current hook & line regulations for waters identified as urban fishing water.
  • Consult fish consumption advisories for information on consuming fish. Some of the waterbodies listed do have health advisories.

Ashland County

Ashland Fishing Pier

Location: In Ashland, WI, off US Highway 2, across from Pamida Discount Store.
Notes: Playground equipment nearby. Could catch perch, northern pike, walleye and pumpkinseeds.>/p>

Barron County

Beaver Dam Lake

Location: Cumberland, WI.
Notes: Fishing pier. Species include northern pike, walleye, largemouth bass and panfish.

Pokegama Lake

Location: Just northeast of Chetek, WI.
Notes: Fishing pier. Species include northern pike, walleye, largemouth and smallmouth bass, panfish.

Rice Lake

Location: Eastside of Rice Lake, WI.
Notes: Fishing pier. Species include musky, northern pike, walleye, largemouth bass, panfish.

Bayfield County

City Park Fishing Pier

Location: Bayfield, WI.
Notes: Playground equipment available. Good place to watch boats: sailboats, ferries, fish tugs, pleasure boats, etc. Chance of catching coho Salmon, splake, perch, brown and lake trout.

Port Wing Breakwall

Location: Along Lake Superior in Port Wing, WI.
Notes: Chance of catching steelhead, coho salmon, brown and lake trout. Also a nice place to build sand castles and look for drift wood.

Washburn Coal Dock

Location: In Washburn, WI.
Notes: Chance of catching splake, northern pike, coho salmon, brown and lake trout. Good place to watch boats and sea gulls.

Washburn West End Campground Fishing Pier

Location: In Washburn, WI.
Notes: Could catch perch, northern pike, pumpkinseeds. Playground equipment nearby. Good place to swim and bird watch.

Brown County

Bay Shore County Park

Location: On the Bay of Green Bay at 3635 Sturgeon Bay Road (also called Highway 57). About two miles south of Dykesville, WI.
Notes: The park has a pier and breakwall for shorefishing and a boat launch to handle boats of any size. Camping available at the park.

Lily Lake Park

Location: East of Green Bay, WI off Highway 29 on 3897 Lily Lake Road.
Notes: Two fishing piers available; boat launch but no motors allowed on lake.

Voyageur Park

Location: A municipal park located on the Fox River at the end of Williams Street on the east side of DePere, WI.
Notes: Most of the shoreline is paved and easily accessible.

Burnett County

Crooked Lake Fishing Pier

Location: Located in Siren, WI adjacent to boat landing.
Notes: Panfish and bass. Picnic and beach area.

Columbia County

Pauquette Pond

Location: Adjacent to the Wisconsin River at Highway 33.
Notes: About one acre in size; stocked with panfish.

Crawford County

Mississippi River

Location: In Prairie du Chien, WI, off US Highway 18, on St. Feriole Island near the Historic Villa Louis.
Notes: St. Feriole Island is a large park with plenty of opportunities to fish from shore at various locations within park. Restrooms located on site, food and beverages are also available on the Island. There is an opportunity to catch smallmouth and largemouth bass, white bass, bluegills, crappie, walleye, sauger, yellow perch, catfish, bullheads, and freshwater drum.

Dane County

Carriage Hills Subdivision Pond

Location: Sun Prairie, WI.
Notes: Stocked with panfish.

Dane County Coliseum

Location: Near the corner of John Nolen Drive and Olin Avenue in Madison, WI.
Notes: Two ponds stocked with panfish.

Governor Nelson State Park

Location: Waunakee, WI, 5140 County Highway M.
Notes: Fee for admission. Camping, picnic area, restrooms, hiking trails, naturalist programs. Commonly found: bluegill, perch, pumpkinseed, northern pike, muskellunge, walleye, smallmouth bass, bullhead, largemouth bass. Angler Education Clinics offered on summer weekends.

Marshall Park Pond

Location: West side of Allen Boulevard, across from Marshall Park boat launch in Madison, WI.
Notes: Stocked with panfish.

Salmo Pond

Location: 2 miles west of Cross Plains, WI on Highway 14.
Notes: Restrooms; bluegill, smallmouth bass, trout are commonly found.

Sun Prairie Industrial Park Pond

Location: Sun Prairie, WI.
Notes: Stocked with panfish.

Tenny Park

Location: 1440 E. Johnson Street, on the eastside of Madison, WI.
Notes: Restrooms, picnic area, beach, playground, shelter house. Commonly found: bluegill, pumpkinseed, largemouth bass, crappie, carp.

The Jenni and Kyle Preserve

Location: 925 Post Road, on the southside of Madison, WI
Notes: Take Fish Hatchery Road south to Greenway Cross and turn left or east (this becomes Stewart Street) and continue for .7 miles; turn right onto Syene Road and go .2 miles to Post Road and turn right. Commonly found: trout, panfish.

Token Creek Ponds

Location: Off Highway 19 in Token Creek, WI.
Notes: Stocked with "brood stock" browns and rainbows a couple days prior to fishing opener. Only good for opening day or so.

Vilas Park

Location: 1330 Vilas Park Drive, on the near westside of Madison, WI.
Fish Species: bluegill, pumpkinseed, largemouth bass, northern pike, muskellunge. Other facilities: restrooms, picnic area, beach, playground, shelter house, zoo.

Warner Park

Location: 1511 Northport Drive on the northside of Madison, WI.
Notes: Restrooms, shelter house; bluegill, pumpkinseed, largemouth bass are commonly found.

Door County

Olde Quarry Park

Location: Few miles north of the City of Sturgeon Bay, WI on Bay Shore Drive.
Notes: Includes shorefishing opportunities for bass, pike and panfish from paved breakwall. Ample parking. Restrooms and picnic tables nearby.

Sawyer Park

Location: North end of Neenah Ave. on the west side of the City of Sturgeon Bay, WI.
Notes: Includes shorefishing opportunities for bass, pike and panfish from two wooden fishing platforms or cement-capped breakwall at the entrance to the boat launch facility. Ample parking. Restrooms and picnic tables nearby.

Sunset Park

Location: Along 3rd Avenue on the east side of the City of Sturgeon Bay, WI.
Notes: Includes fishing in Little Lake that is stocked with panfish and shorefishing along the shore of Sturgeon Bay for smallmouth bass and panfish.

Douglas County

Arrowhead Fishing Pier

Location: On the St. Louis River at the extreme western end of Belknap Street in Superior, WI.
Notes: Ammenities include restrooms, benches and picnic tables. Protective railings. Walleye, northern pike, yellow perch and crappies.

Barkers Island

Location: Just west of the entrance road to Barkers Island which is visible to traffic passing by on Highway 2.
Notes: Amenities include benches and protective railings. Bathrooms are found a short distance away at the tourism center. Walleye, northern pike, yellow perch and crappies.

Fond du Lac County

Lakeside Park

Location: On Lake Winnebago, at the north end of Fond du Lac, WI at North Main Street and North Park Street.
Notes: Lagoons to fish for bullhead, bluegill, perch, white bass and an occasional gamefish. Park has a playground, rides and access to Lake Winnebago. The harbor at the east end of the park also has fishing opportunities and a lighthouse.

Green Lake County

There are a number of shorefishing areas associated with the Fox River lock system in Green Lake County. One the most popular is:

Princeton Locks Fishing Area

Location: Off of Highway 23 about 2 miles west of Princeton, WI.
Notes: Has a fishing pier and provides a good variety of fishing at most times of the year.

Iowa County

Blackhawk Lake

Location: Blackhawk Lake Recreation Area. Northwest of Dodgeville, WI.
Notes: County sticker required for use. Walleye, panfish, large and smallmouth bass.

Governor Dodge State Park

Location: North of Dodgeville, WI off of Highway 23. Cox Hollow and Twin Valley lakes within the park.
Notes: State park sticker or admission fee required. Hiking and camping. Panfish, largemouth bass and walleye found in Cox Hollow Lake. Trout, panfish, largemouth bass, walleye and muskie found in Twin Valley Lake.

Luden Lake

Location: Spillway below Luden Lake, northwest of Mineral Point, WI.
Notes: Panfish, large and smallmouth bass.

Iron County

Mercer Lake Public Landing

Location: Southside of Mercer, WI.
Notes: Fishing pier. Muskie, northern pike, walleye, largemouth bass and panfish are considered common.

Wilson Lake Public Landing

Location: Southwest of Mercer, WI on Popkos Circle Road East
Notes: Muskie, northern pike, panfish, small and largemouth bass.

Kenosha County

Anderson Park Pond

Location: Junction of State Highway 174 (22nd Avenue) and 89th Street in Kenosha, WI.

Children's Fishing Pond

Location: In the Bong State Recreation Area at the junction of State Highways 142 & 75, 13 miles west of Kenosha or entrance on State Highway 142 about 8 miles southeast of Burlington, WI.

Fox River County Park

Location: Located at the junction of County Higways F & W, north of Wilmont and just west of Silver Lake.
Notes: Shorefishing.

Poerio Park Pond

Location: Junction of 20th Avenue and 13th Place in Kenosha, WI.
Notes: Urban fishing water - see urban fishing rules in hook & line regulations; shoreline is accessible to public.

Vern Wolf Lake

Location: In the Bong State Recreation Area at the junction of State Highways 142 & 75, 13 miles west of Kenosha or entrance on State Highway 142 about 8 miles southeast of Burlington, WI.
Notes: Accessible fishing pier. Shorefishing.

La Crosse County

Petibone Park

Location: On Barron Island, across the Cass Street Bridge from downtown La Crosse, WI.
Notes: Large park with restrooms and picnic areas. Entire shoreline is accessible for fishing in addition to several fishing piers. Bass, northern pike and panfish are present.

Kewaunee County

Heidman (Bolt) Lake

Location: Just west of Bolt, WI on Bolt Road.
Notes: Located in a park. Restrooms available.

West Alaska Lake

Location: In the town of Alaska, south of Algoma, WI. Access from Highway D.
Notes: Located in a park. Restrooms available.

LaFayette County

Yellowstone Lake State Park

Location: On Lake Road, off of County Highway F, 8 miles southwest of Blanchardville, WI.
Notes: Fee for admission. Lots of area for bank fishing. There is a boat rental located on the lake. Bullheads, bluegill, crappie, walleye, bass and channel cats can all be caught from shore. There is also bank fishing below the lake in the spillway area. Catch and release only on large and smallmouth bass, walleye, sauger and their hybrids, northern pike, muskellunge and their hybrids, channel and flathead catfish, gar and bowfin.

Langlade County

Antigo Lake Park - Antigo Lake/Spring Brook

Location: Municipal park south of Second Avenue, five blocks east of Highway 45 in Antigo, WI.
Notes: Fishing pier. Bluegill, pumpkinseed, perch, crappie, largemouth bass, northern pike, and brook trout. Camping, picnic area, restrooms, playground, swimming pool, and ballfields. Remember, to fish for trout a trout stamp is required for anglers 16 and older.

Lions Park - East Branch Eau Claire River

Location: Lions Club Park at the junction of Highway 45 and Highway C in Deerbrook, WI; five miles north of Antigo, WI.
Notes: Fishing platform. Brook trout and creek chubs. Picnic area, shelter and restrooms. Remember, to fish for trout a trout stamp is required for anglers 16 and older.

Pence Lake

Location: County forest property on Pence Lake Rd. 1/2 mile north of County Highway A, 6 miles northeast of Neva.
Notes: Shoreline fishing access. Brook and brown trout. Picnic area, restrooms, and boat launch. Remember, to fish for trout a trout stamp is required for anglers 16 and older.

Post Lake Dam Wayside - Wolf River

Location: On Clear Lake Rd. 1/4 mile south of County Highway K in Post Lake (5 miles east of Elcho).
Notes: Shoreline fishing access on the Wolf River downstream from Post Lake dam. Bluegill, pumpkinseed, perch, crappie, rock bass, largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, walleye, northern pike, suckers, and redhorse. Picnic area, restrooms, and canoe launch.

Shadick Spring Pond

Location: DNR Property 10 miles northeast of Antigo on the north side of County Highway A (3 miles north of County Highway O junction).
Notes: Handicap accessible fishing platform. Brook trout. Remember, to fish for trout a trout stamp is required for anglers 16 and older.

Townline Lake

Location: County forest property on County Highway T 6 miles west of Summit Lake.
Notes: Shoreline fishing access. Brown and rainbow trout. Picnic area and canoe launch. Remember, to fish for trout a trout stamp is required for anglers 16 and older.

Veterans Memorial Park - Jack Lake

Location: County park at the end of County Highway J, 2 miles east of State Highway 45, 12 miles north of Antigo.
Notes: Handicap accessible fishing pier. Bluegill, pumpkinseed, perch, largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, northern pike, rainbow trout, and brook trout. Camping, picnic area, shelter, swimming beach, restrooms, playground, and boat launch. Remember, to fish for trout a trout stamp is required for anglers 16 and older.

White Lake Park - White Lake

Location: Municipal park on Highway M on the north side of White Lake, WI 1.5 miles south of Highway 64.
Notes: Handicap accessible fishing pier. Bluegill, pumpkinseed, rock bass, perch, crappie, bullhead, largemouth bass, northern pike and walleye. Picnic area, shelter, restrooms, boat launch and public swimming beach.

Lincoln County

Ament Lake

Location: County forest property on Ament Lake Rd. From State Highway 17, 4 miles north of Dudley, go 2.5 miles west on County Highway B and then 3 miles west on Bear Trail Rd. to Ament Lake Rd. which dead ends at the lake. Ament Lake is the larger lake on the east side of the road.
Notes: Shoreline fishing access. Brook trout. Canoe launch. Ament Lake is only open to fishing in even numbered years (2002, 2004, etc.). Remember, to fish for trout a trout stamp is required for anglers 16 and older.

Bradley Park - Mirror Lake

Location: Municipal park off the north side of Putnam Street, one block west of Highway 86 in Tomahawk, WI.
Notes: Four fishing piers, one of which is handicap accessible. Stocked with bluegill, pumpkinseed, crappie, bullhead and perch. Kids fishing and catch and release only. Walking trails.

Council Grounds State Park

Location: Lake Alexander/Wisconsin River. State park west of Highway 107, north of Merrill, WI
Notes: Fishing platform and floating handicap accessible fishing pier on Lake Alexander. Shoreline fishing area below the dam along the Wisconsin River. Bluegill, pumpkinseed, perch, bullhead, crappie, smallmouth bass, walleye, northern pike and muskellunge. State park sticker or admission fee required. Camping, picnic area, restrooms, shelters, walking trails, naturalist programs, beach and boat launch.

Larson Lake

Location: County park 8 miles north of Merrill, WI on County Highway K.
Notes: Shoreline fishing access. Rainbow and brown trout. Canoe launch, picnic area and restrooms. Remember, to fish for trout a trout stamp is required for anglers 16 and older.

Moraine Lake

Location: County forest property on Moraine Lake Rd., 1.5 miles northwest of State Highway 17 off County Highway B, 6 miles north of Dudley.
Notes: Shoreline fishing access. Rainbow and brook trout. Canoe launch. Remember, to fish for trout a trout stamp is required for anglers 16 and older.

Otter Lake Recreation Area - Otter Lake

Location: County forest property on Otter Lake Rd. From Tomahawk go east on County Highway S until it ends at the junction of County Highway H and Stevenson Rd. Go east on Stevenson Rd. and follow the signs to the lake (1.5 miles east on Stevenson Rd. to Grundy Rd.; 1/4 mile north on Grundy Rd. to Bear Trail Rd.; 2 miles east on Bear Trail Rd. to Otter Lake Rd.)
Notes: Shoreline fishing access. Bluegill, pumpkinseed, perch, bullhead, northern pike, and largemouth bass. Camping, picnic area, restrooms, and boat launch.

Tahoe Lake

Location: County forest property on Ament Lake Rd. From State Highway 17, 4 miles north of Dudley, go 2.5 miles west on County Highway B and then 3 miles west on Bear Trail Rd. to Ament Lake Rd. which dead ends at the lake. Tahoe Lake is the smaller lake on the west side of the road.
Notes: Shoreline fishing access. Rainbow trout. Canoe launch. Tahoe Lake is only open to fishing in odd numbered years (2003, 2005 etc.). Remember, to fish for trout a trout stamp is required for anglers 16 and older.

Manitowoc County

Long Lake

Location: Southeast of Brillion, WI, on the Manitowoc - Calumet County Line. Access from Boot Lake Road.
Notes: Located in a park. Restrooms available.

Silver Lake

Location: Just west of Manitowoc, WI on Highway 151.
Notes: Located in a park. Restrooms available.

Location: Off Highway 22 in Montello, WI.
Notes: Has a fishing pier and provides a good variety of fishing at most times of the year.

Brown Deer Park

Location: Junction of Good Hope Road and Rangeline Road or Good Hope Road and Teutonia Avenue.

Carrol Lake

Location: Off of County Highway J, 2 miles east of Woodruff, WI.
Notes: Easy to catch bluegill, crappie, and bass. Access is by boat, or there is a fishing pier at the Carrol Lake campground that provides great access.

Madeline Lake

Location: Off of County Highway J, 2 miles east of Woodruff, WI.
Notes: Easy to catch bluegill, crappie, and bass. Access is by boat.

North Side of Highway 51 (39) Bridge

Location: In downtown Minocqua, WI.
Notes: This is a public fishing pier that usually provides good fishing for most panfish species, and some walleye, musky and bass.

Ozaukee County

Harrington Beach State Park Quarry

Location: Take Interstate 43 north to County Highway D. Take County Highway D into the park. (Highway D is about 7 miles north of Port Washington, WI.)

Mequon Rotary Park Ponds, East & West

Location: On Highland Road about 1.5 miles east of State Highway 57 in Mequon, WI.

Pucketts Pond

Location: In Harrington Beach State Park. Take Interstate 43 north to County Highway D. Take County Highway D into the park. (Highway D is about 7 miles north of Port Washington, WI.)

Schowalter Park Pond

Location: In Saukville, WI. Take County Highway W north about one-half mile from the junction of County Highway W and State Highway 33 in Saukville to Schowalter Street. Then go east on Schowalter Street about one-quarter mile to the pond.

Location: Junction of Tamarack and Willow Brooke Drives in Cedarburg, WI.

Balsam Lake

Location: Next to the Balsam Lake Dam in the Village of Balsam Lake.

Location: City park in Park Falls, WI on the Upper Park Falls Flowage. On Saunders Avenue off Highway 182. Look for the signs.

Lionite Park

Location: City park in Phillips, WI on Elk Lake. Right along Highway 13 just past the downtown area.
Notes: Offers an accessible fishing pier plus other shorefishing spots along a nice shoreline trail. New boat landing and playground/pavillion area.

Newman Lake

Location: 15 miles east of Park Falls on Hwy 182 and FS Rd. 144
Notes: A U.S. Forest Service picnic area, playground, swimming beach as well as a new fishing pier and lots of shorebased fishing spots. Good bluegills and bass are present.

Prentice Park

Location: City park in Prentice, WI on the Prentice Flowage (Jump River). On the east side of Highway 13 near downtown Prentice.
Notes: All shoreline-based fishing along a village picnic area/park.

Patterson Lake

Location: On Hwy 182, 13 miles east of Park Falls, WI.
Notes: Offers shoreline-based fishing along much of the lakeshore near a township boat landing/parking area. Great little stocked trout lake.

Eagle Lake

Location: In Eagle Lake County Park on Church Road. 1/2 mile west of the intersection of state highway 75 and Church Road.

Gorney Park

Location: On Nicholson Road, 1.5 miles north of the junction of Nicholson Road and State Highway 38, in the town of Caledonia, WI.

Plenke Pond

Location: 600 Granite Avenue, Reedsburg, WI. Take Higway 23 south of Highway 33 about one mile, turn east on K and then north on Granite Avenue.
Notes: About 2 acres in size. Picnic area, fishing piers, stocked with panfish.

Deppe Pond

Location: Baraboo, WI on the southeast side of the city on Lake Street, south and east of the Baraboo County Club.
Notes: One-half acre in size. Fishing pier; stocked with panfish.

Sawyer County

Shues Pond Park

Location: One block north of the county courthouse in Hayward, WI.
Notes: Picnic tables, playground, panfish fishing.

Hayward City Beach

Location: One block north of National Freshwater Fishing Hall of Fame, off of County Highway B.
Notes: Picnic and day use facilities including swimming area and a handicap accessible fishing pier.

Hayward Canoe Launch

Location: Across from DNR Ranger Station, off State Highway 27.
Notes: Picnic area, canoe launch, fishing pier on Namekagon River.

Lake Winter Causeway

Location: East of Winter, WI along Lake Winter Road.
Notes: Road parallels lake creating good shorefishing areas for panfishing.

Pig Pond

Locations: Walk-in trail off Larsen Road in Town of Seeley, approximately 0.1 miles north of bridge over Namekagon River.
Notes: Shorefishing for rainbow trout.

Hatchery Creek Park

Location: County park off State Highway 77, 2 miles east of Hayward, WI
Notes: Day use pavilion, ski trails, picnic and restroom facility. Fish for wild brook trout in a small, but accessible, stream.

Lake Chetac at Squaw Creek Culvert

Location: About 3 miles northeast of Birchwood, WI. Shorefishing off County Highway "E" R.O.W.
Notes: Good panfishing.

Silverthorne Lake Town Park

Location: 1/2 mile north of Seeley, WI off of State Highway 63.
Notes: Fish off pier at beach when swimmers are not present. Trout, bass, and panfish. Picnic area, swimming beach, ball diamond, tennis court, restroom facilities.

Taylor County

Miller Dam Flowage

Location: Approximately 18 miles west of Medford, WI or 5 miles northeast of Gilman, WI.
Notes: At the U.S. Forest Service Chippewa Campground on the east side there is a new fishing pier and lots of shorefishing spots to try. At the county boat landing at the Dam there is a picnic area and fishing pier as well as shorefishing spots. Several shorefishing areas are also found along County Highway G along the west side of the flowage and near the Highway G county boat landing/park on the west side.

Riverside Park

Location: A city park in the heart of Medford, WI just north of Highway 64.
Notes: Offers a fishing pier plus lots of shore-based opportunities on the Medford Millpond (Black River). Picnic/camping area, swimming pool and playground.

Rib Lake Park

Location: Rib Lake, WI city park on the east edge of Rib Lake off Lakeshore Drive.
Notes: Offers an accessible pier and boat landing area, plus nearby camping/picnic/playground areas.

Diamond Lake County Park

Location: A Taylor County park, 3 miles northeast of Lublin, WI off County Highway F.
Notes: Offers an accessible fishing pier plus shore-based sites. A nice pavillion/picnic area and boat launch.

Chelsea Lake County Park

Location: Taylor County park just north of the Chelsea, WI on Highway 13.
Notes: Accessible fishing pier, picnic area, swimming, boat launch site and shore-based fishing spots.

Mondeaux Dam

Location: U.S. Forest Service picnic area on the north end of Mondeax Flowage, 8 miles west of Westboro, WI.
Notes: Shoreline-based fishing, playground, swimming beach and concession, plus nearby U.S. Forest Service camping.

Walworth County

Ceylon Pond Park

Location: In Big Foot Beach State Park. From downtown Lake Geneva, take State Highway 120 south about 1.5 miles to the park.

Comus Lake

Millpond Park Urban Fishing Pond

Location: In Millpond Park on the south side of the Village of East Troy.

Tripp Lake

Location: In a Whitewater city park. Take U.S. Highway 12 (East Milwaukee Street) in Whitewater, WI to South Wisconsin Street to Coburn Lane, then go east to the lake.

Whitewater & Rice Lakes

Location: In the Southern Unit of Kettle Moraine State Forest, 2 miles southeast of Whitewater, WI in the Whitewater Lake Recreation Area. Take Interstate 94 to State Highway 67 then south on 67 to U.S. Highway 12. Go west on 12 to County Highway P, then south on County Highway P to Whitewater and Rice Lakes. Or take Interstate 43 southwest to U.S. Highway 12, go to County Highway A, then west on County Highway A to County P, north to the lakes.

Washburn County

Minong Kids Pond

Location: Located at the Minong Ranger Station on Highway 77, on the east side of the Minong, WI.
Notes: Pond is stocked with trout and panfish for kids only. Adults may assist small children. Catch and release is encouraged, but kids may keep a few to eat. Best fishing is in May to early June.

Totogatic Fishing Pier

Location: Located at Washburn County Campground on Minong Flowage. Northeast of Minong, WI off County Highway I.
Notes: Panfish, bass, northern pike and carp most frequent catches. Picnic, beach and boat landing facilities.

Yellow River Flowage Pier and Shoreline

Location: On the west-side of Spooner, WI on the southside of Highway 70 at the Governor Thompson Hatchery grounds.
Notes: Fish for panfish, trout, bass, northern, walleye and other species from the bank or several fishing piers on the flowage or the river below the dam. Also see fish in the show pond. Check out the Hatchery Visitor Center or take in a guided hatchery tour. Hatchery visitor center is generally not open on weekends.

Washington County

Boot Lake

Location: In Ridge Run County Park. Take State Highway 33, west out of West Bend, WI to University Drive (about one-half mile west of U.S. Highway 45) then go south one-half mile to park.

Homestead Hollow Park Pond

Kewaskum Millpond

Pike Lake

Location: In Pike Lake State Park. Take State Highway 41 to State Highway 60, go west on 60, 3 miles to Kettle Moraine Drive, then go south on Kettle Moraine Drive to the park.

Sandy Knoll Park Pond

Location: In Sandy Knoll County Park. Take State Highway 33 west out of Newburg, WI (or east out of West Bend, WI) to North Trenton Road, then go north 1.5 miles to Wallace Lake Road, go east on Wallace Lake Road about one-eighth of a mile to park entrance.

Wells Lake

Waukesha County

Ashippun Lake Park

Location: In Oconomowoc, WI. Take Capitol Drive west to State Highway 16, go west on 16 to County Highway P, then take P north to County Highway K, go west on K to McMahon Road. Watch for "public access" sign.
Notes: Run by Waukesha County Parks. Park has picnic area, restrooms and shorefishing.

Denoon Lake

Location: Located on Crowbar Drive, south of Kelsey Drive. Go west from Highway Y.
Notes: Public park with ballfields, restrooms, picnic area and boat launch. Not much shorefishing, due to marshy area near shore.

Lac La Belle

Location: At the Fowler Lake Dam, on Highway 67, one-quarter mile north of State Highway 16 in the Oconomowoc, WI. Located just northeast of the beach and park on Lac La Belle. The beach and park are on Highway 16, just west of Highway 67.
Notes: Disabled accessible public fishing pier.

Little Muskego Lake

Location: Access from Idle Isle Park in Muskego, WI on the northeast side of Little Muskego Lake. Take Martin Drive to Hardtke Drive to the park.
Note: Idle Isle Park has a beach, picnic area, restrooms, accessible public fishing pier and boat launch.

Lower Phantom Lake

Location: In Phantom Glen Park in Mukwonago, WI. Take County Highway ES (Main Street) to Andrews Street, then go west into the park.
Notes: Public park with picnic area, restrooms, disabled accessible public fishing pier and boat ramp.

McKeaun Springs

Location: Trout pond located on the west side of Highway 67, between Piper Road and Road X. About 3 miles north of Eagle, WI.
Notes: No facilities, but there is a picnic area with restrooms just a short distance to the south. DNR manages as a children's trout fishing pond. Although it is officially category 3 (3 bag and 9 inch length), there is a voluntary regulation for adults to catch and release, and kids are allowed to keep one trout of any size. Designed to encourage adults to take kids out and teach them to trout fish.

Nagawicka Lake

Location: In Nagawaukee County Park. Take County Highway C, three-quarters of a mile north of Interstate 94 in Delafield, WI.
Notes: Public beach, picnic area, restrooms and concessions, camping, shorefishing and boat launch.

Nemahbin Lakes, Upper and Lower

Location: Southeast of Oconomowoc, WI, off of County Highway DR.
Notes: County owned access on frontage road between the two lakes, Highway DR. shorefishing on Upper Nemahbin from the road right-of-way. DNR owned carry-in site on Lower Nemahbin off Sugar Island Road.

Pewaukee Lake

Location: Village park in downtown Pewaukee, WI.
Notes: Public park with beach and public fishing pier. Can also access Pewaukee River just below the dam. On Wisconsin Avenue in downtown Pewaukee. Boat launch and shorefishing from county park and boat ramp at the west end, on Highway E.

Wood County

Wildwood Park

Location: South side of Marshfield, WI, on west side of Highway 13.
Notes: Bank fishing, two large ponds and restroom facilities.

Lake Wazeecha County Park

Location: County Highway U on the east side of Wisconsin Rapids, WI.
Notes: Bank fishing, picnic and camping, facilities, and restrooms.

Wisconsin River

Location: Much of the both banks of the Wisconsin River in the cities of Wisconsin Rapids and Nekoosa, WI are available for fishing.
