Lake Michigan Fisheries News

TO: People interested in Great Lakes fisheries

FROM: Bill Horns, Great Lakes Fisheries Specialist

We have completed a public discussion draft of our long-term plan for managing Wisconsin’s Lake Michigan fishery, the Lake Michigan Integrated Fisheries Management Plan, 2002-2011.

You may have participated in meetings in November of 2000 and March of 2001 at which we solicited public comments about issues that should be considered in the new Plan. Comments received at that time provided part of the basis for the present draft. If you contributed to those meetings, or have written to me about this separately, I thank you for your assistance.

I can mail you a copy of the draft Plan, or you can find it on our Lake Michigan WEB page (click on "Management Reports"). Please look it over and send me your comments by US mail or by e-mail. We will accept comments until the end of September, when we will begin preparing the final draft. Thank you for giving your attention to this draft.

If you have questions or comments about the draft plan or any other issue related to Great Lakes fisheries, contact me by phone (608.266.8782), FAX (608.266.2244), or e-mail (william.horns@wisconsin.gov). For additional information about our program, visit our Lake Michigan WEB page:
