2009 Summer Nature Programs

The following programs will be held on Saturdays from 1 - 2 pm at the Connors Lake Picnic Area in the Flambeau River State Forest (unless specified otherwise). The programs are free of cost, but there is a vehicle parking fee at Connors Lake Picnic Area. The public is invited to attend. Hope to see you there!
June 20: Oh Knots
Learn how to tie basic knots that you will be able to use while camping, fishing, or canoeing.
June 27: Using Your Senses
Come and use your senses to try and identify a variety of objects, just like the animals of the forest!
July 4: Scavenger Hunt
Join us for the 8th annual Scavenger Hunt and see what you can find. Prizes for all!
July 11: Fishing Fun
Do you like to fish? Bring your fishing pole and get ready for some casting games. We will also get a chance to do some fishing! (No pole? No problem, some extra poles will be provided)
July 18: Paddling Adventure
Come and learn some basic canoe strokes and then go for an easy paddle.
Some canoes, paddles, and lifejackets will be provided, but you may bring your own.
SPECIAL TIME: 10 am - 12 pm and 1 - 3 pm
ALSO JULY 18: Wolf Howling
Join us on a late night adventure as we attempt to communicate with wild wolves of northern Wisconsin
Special Time & Place: 10:00 pm – 12:30 am. Meet at the Flambeau River State Forest Headquarters
(Alternate Date in case of inclement weather – July 25)
July 25: Nature Hike
Learn the wonders of the woods on a guided hike along the nature trail at the LAKE OF THE PINES campground.
Special Place: Meet at the Lake of the Pines boat landing.
August 2: Campfire Cooking
We will learn some basic campfire cooking skills and recipes. Bring an appetite, as we will be putting recipes to the test.
August 8: Slough Gundy Nature Hike
Join Flambeau River State Forest Staff on a guided hike of Slough Gundy and Little Falls.
SPECIAL PLACE: Slough Gundy Parking Area (South on M after crossing the South Fork)
August 22: Evening Canoeing
Come along for a relaxing evening paddle.
Some canoes, paddles, and life jackets will be provided, but bring your own if you have them.
SPECIAL TIME: 6 PM
August 29: Camping Bingo
Come see how lucky you can be. Lots of great prizes for everyone!
