Frequently Asked Questions - Natural Heritage Inventory
(Revised March 22, 2006)
Q: How do I find the policy on how a CPW obtains NHI information?
A: This policy was e-mailed to all CPWs and DNR foresters on January 9, 2006. CPWs can request another copy of the materials from the Forest Tax Section. DNR foresters can find the information on the Forest Tax intranet.
Q: Can a CPW use the same process for obtaining NHI information when doing a timber sale on MFL land? Or updating a MFL plan?
A: Yes. The same process can be used to provide CPWs with NHI reports for MFL administration purposes, including planning and practice implementation. This has been approved by the Bureau of Endangered Resources.
Q: Can a CPW use the same process for obtaining NHI information for FCL plans and practices?
A: Yes. The same process can be used to provide CPWs with NHI reports for FCL administration purposes, including planning and practice implementation. This has been approved by the Bureau of Endangered Resources.
Q: If a non-CPW is preparing a plan for a CPW to review and sign, can the non-CPW request and use the NHI information?
A: No. Only a CPW can request and use an NHI report. The non-CPW can obtain the township level information off of the internet or the CPW can request the NHI information and incorporate it into the plan. The CPW may not share the information with the non-CPW plan preparer.
Q: How does a CPW obtain an NHI report for contracted plans?
A: For plans contracted with the Department, the NHI report can be sent along with the petition packet. No specific request from the CPW is needed. This is for plans contracted with the Department only.
