The most common question Utilization and Marketing specialists hear from private landowners is "How can I sell my timber?" The first step is to contact a DNR forester or a cooperating forester. Foresters will help answer your questions and guide you through the process from finding a logger to selling your timber.

As you consider whom to hire to harvest your timber, consider hiring a Master Logger [exit DNR]. Certified Master Loggers have the education, trainining, skill and experience to do the job according to the Areas of Responsibility determined by the American Logging Council.

Foresters can also assist you with information about the forest tax laws, which encourage landowners to sustainably maintain their forestlands by providing property tax incentives. Land management plans must be prepared by a certified plan writer or a DNR forester.
