Public Land Acquired for Hunting, Fishing and Outdoor Recreation

Family Hunt DNR fish managers, wildlife biologists and real estate agents funded in part with license dollars have successfully leveraged other funding in order to provide many new places for people to enjoy hunting and fishing in the state. For example, using funding from Wisconsin's Knowles-Nelson Stewardship Program, staff have been able to acquire over 280,000 acres of land open to hunting and fishing since 1990. This brings the total amount of DNR lands open to hunting and fishing to over 1.4 million acres spread across the state in over 400 projects. In the last five years alone 136,855 acres were acquired.
