2007-08 Report to the Legislature on Aquatic Invasive Species

Lake with fog

Did you know that 75% of Wisconsin's lakes with public access are free of Eurasian water-milfoil and zebra mussels? We aim to prevent the spread through efforts such as watercraft inspections. In 2008, over 54,000 watercraft were inspected to be sure invasive plants and animals were removed before leaving or entering boat landings. Most of these inspections were done by volunteers. Wisconsin also awards grants to help local communities prevent, contain and control aquatic invasive species. $4.3 million were awarded between 2007-2008.
