Water Quality and Clarity Data

Lake Water Quality Data

In Wisconsin, volunteers, staff and other data collectors monitor the water quality of lakes around the state. Often this is done using a black & white disk, called a Secchi Disk. Other times, water samples are collected and sent to a laboratory. Additionally, temperature and dissolved oxygen readings are often taken.

Satellite Water Clarity

If you don't find the lake you're looking for through the link above, you may want to check our Satellite Water Clarity data. Data collected by volunteers and staff is used to calibrate a model that can predict water clarity on surrounding lakes using satellite images. This allows us to monitor many more lakes than volunteers and staff are actually able to visit.
