Title II - Americans with Disabilities Act

The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) prohibits discrimination based on disability by private employers, state and local governments, mass transit agencies and public accommodations.

The ADA applies to qualified individuals with disabilities. To have a covered disability under the ADA, a person must have a condition that substantially limits a major life activity, a history of such a condition or be regarded as having such a condition.

Title II of the ADA applies to all state and local governments. Each service, program or activity must be operated so that when viewed in its entirety, it is readily accessible to and useable by individuals with disabilities unless it would result in a fundamental alteration in the nature of a service, program or activity or in undue financial and administrative burdens. Structural changes to existing buildings may be required where other methods of achieving compliance are not effective. Newly constructed state and local government buildings must be accessible.

Title II information and requirements are voluminous. This site will serve as a resource to provide information, technical assistance and publications on the ADA, particularly as it relates to accessibility of DNR facilities for visitors and staff.
