What materials are banned from landfills and licensed incinerators?

Lead acid batteries, major appliances, used oil, yard waste, aluminum containers, corrugated paper and other container board, glass containers, magazines, newspapers, office paper, plastic containers*, steel containers, tires and bi-metal steel/aluminum containers.

For people/businesses in incinerator service areas, only lead acid batteries, major appliances, used oil, aluminum containers, glass containers, steel containers. and bi-metal steel/aluminum containers. Some local ordinances require other items to be recycled.

* Currently only plastic containers numbered one and two (#1 and #2) must be recycled. DNR has granted a waiver to collection requirements and disposal restrictions for plastic containers number three through seven (#3 - #7) and for polystyrene foam packaging.
