Goals & Objectives
Each of our strategic goals contains short term objectives and strategies that describe how we intend to meet the goal.
- The public and the environment are not exposed to toxins in air, groundwater, surface water and land due to waste management and disposal practices. Our objectives include reducing illegal open burning, landfill gas and groundwater impacts and encouraging business to go beyond compliance.
- Waste management and mining facilities are managed so that the affected land is returned to productive use, hazards are eliminated and the facility is not a burden to the host community. Our objectives include ensuring owner financial responsibility for landfills and restoration of sand and gravel pits.
- By 2015, increase waste material reuse and recycling and maximize the environmental and economic benefits for Wisconsin of waste as raw materials by 30%. Our objectives include increasing the efficiency of Wisconsin's recycling program and the use of industrial byproducts and construction and demolition materials.
- The Waste & Materials Management Program is efficient, effective, innovative and collaborative, and stakeholders view it as a leader in public health and environmental protection. Our objectives include implementing our program redesign, providing value in our plan approvals and making information available on the Web.
- The Waste & Materials Management Program is committed to continuous improvement and compliance with its legal requirements and funding obligations. Our objectives include implementing our hazardous waste rule revisions and earning our hazardous waste grant from EPA.
