Statistics for Regulatory Decision Making
Environmental Laboratory Certification

Description

The DNR approves over 400 laboratories to test soil, water and waste for contaminants. To be approved, laboratories must meet standards set in state law. For more information about this program, visit Laboratory Certification.

Application Process

Once a complete application is submitted, the DNR has 90 days to inspect the laboratory. After any problems found during the inspection are fixed, the DNR has 20 days to approve the laboratory. The DNR can also choose not to inspect the laboratory if it had recently been inspected or if the application materials are enough to show compliance with state standards.
