Wastewater Discharge Permits

Description

The Department regulates municipal, industrial, and significant animal waste operations discharging wastewater to the surface or groundwaters of the State through the Wisconsin Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (WPDES) permit program. These wastewater permits set limits on the discharge of pollutants, require self monitoring, and reporting of results. WPDES wastewater permits are issued for a five-year term and remain in effect until revoked or reissued. Applications for new wastewater discharges must be submitted at least 180 days prior to the proposed date of discharge. more...

Goals

WPDES wastewater permits are issued for a five-year term and contain requirements to protect waters of the state. The timeframe related goal is to reissue ninety percent of expiring permits prior to the expiration date (<180 days).
