Whitnall High School5000 S. 116th Street, Greenfield, WI 53228Surveys completed: 2002, 2003, 2007 Teacher/grade: Laura Cerletty, grade 10 Map/description of study site: Greenfield is a suburb located southwest of Milwaukee. The project took place on the school grounds. The milkweed was growing on a steep bank surrounding a ¼ acre pond. The pond is located 100 yards South of I-43, just west of the Hale Interchange. The school s football field is located just south of the pond. This area is the headwaters for Whitnall Park Creek which eventually flows into the root river. Survey dates: September 14, 2007 Special note: This is a new study site for Whitnall. Previous data was collected in the school s nature pod, located 1 block west of the pond. The milkweed populations in our Nature Pod are on the decline. This class did a great job of individualizing the curriculum. The 9th and 10th-graders teamed up with 3rd-graders and studied the milkweed plot together. This is a great way to share and learn in the field. In 2003, this class once again went above and beyond the project specifications and specialized the curriculum. This year the class completed extra biomonitoring questionnaires, performed experiments with Schoenbein paper (measures O3 in the troposphere), and generated conclusions containing charts and graphs. |
