Hiking the Ice Age Trail. The Pothole Trail is the western end of the 1200-mile long Ice Age National ScenicTrail that spans the State of Wisconsin. Join Naturalist Barb Walker and learn about
the unique geology of Interstate Park, a unit of the Ice Age National Scientific Reserve. Meet at the Pothole Trail sign. 4 p.m.
- Secrets of Eagle Peak. Join the naturalist for a short walk up the Eagle Peak Trail. Learn the secrets of The Peak and see a spectacular view of the St. Croix River Valley. Meet at the Eagle

- Nature Storytime: Long Jumpers--Frogs. Able to leap over a
lily pad in a single bound! A tongue faster than a fly! It's a frog!

- Owls: Silent Hunters of the Night. Owls are among the most successful predators of the night because of their amazing adaptations. Learn all about them with Naturalist Barb Walker and her

- Exploring Nature: So Many Legs! Six, eight, 14, 20, 100+
Why so many legs? As we sweep, poke and dig through the fields and
forests, we'll uncover what creatures have so many legs and try
to figure out why. This program is best for families/groups with
children between the ages of 5 and 12 years. Ice Age Visitor Center.

- Drop In at the Beach: Alien Attack. We're being invaded
not by outer space aliens, but by alien plants and animals. Uncover
what foreign species are taking over our native communities and
what can be done to help control their spread. You can make several
unique crafts including a smashed-plant bandanna. Bring your own
bandanna or purchase one that day for a small fee. Drop in for a
few minutes or more than an hour for some nature fun. Adults are
encouraged to participate with their children. Long Lake Recreation
Area. 1-4 p.m.
- Family Concert with Randy Peterson. Randy's catchy original
songs have universal appeal that invite audience participation and
spotlight a variety of musical styles -- from folk to rock, to reggae,
to polka. This is an outdoor concert, so bring blankets and lawn
chairs. This program is great for all ages from preschoolers through
grandparents. Mauthe Lake Recreation Area Picnic Shelter, or in
case of inclement weather, the Ice Age Visitor Center. 7-9 p.m.

- Lions in the Park. Check out the lions in the park - ant
lions, that is. Meet volunteer naturalist Jim Mohr for a brief talk
followed by a hike to search for these interesting and often overlooked

- Solar System Walk. Join Solar System Ambassador
Kevin Koski on a hike of our solar system. Learn fun and fascinating
facts about the planets in our solar system and find out why Pluto
is no longer considered a planet. Please wear comfortable shoes
for the hike on the beach. Hike is best for those age 8 and up.

- Search the Sky With the Naked Eye. Join star enthusiasts
Joe and Mary Glover for an evening learning to read the night sky
without the use of a telescope. The entire family is welcome. Bring
chair or blanket and flashlights; dress for cool lakeside temperatures.

Nature Center. 7 p.m.
- Night Noises - Midnight Music For Campers. Have you been
waking up in the middle of the night and wondering what that noise
is outside your tent? It's not something scary - oh no! It's midnight
music for the brave at heart! Volunteer naturalist Chris Lilek will
teach you how to crackle, squeak, buzz and bump like the creatures
of the night. Amphitheater. 8-9 p.m.

Sunsets, Yoga, and Paddling. Wendy Yanke of Indigo Yoga will teach you two of our favorite things at our favorite time of the day! We'll have plenty of insect repellent and incense burning to help you achieve a bug-free Zen. And when we're done you'll see why the sunsets at Big Foot Beach State Park have been rated the best in the state!

Join Rustic Skies Astronomy to learn all about our solar system through a series of hands-on activities designed for children age 8 and up (must be accompanied by an adult). Sea Kayakers to learn about the basics of kayaking, including equipment,

- Outdoor Adventure: Climb a Kame. Climb Dundee Mountain to gain
a better understanding of how the glaciers created kames, eskers, moraines,
kettles and outwash plains. The trail is 1.5 miles long and requires
hiking up and down a steep hill. In the event of threatening weather,
the program will be canceled. This adventure is for people over the
age of 12 years. Meet at the Ice Age Visitor Center and then car pool
the 3 miles to the Summit Trail on Dundee Mountain. 6:30-8 p.m.

- Wolves Of Wisconsin. Join Michelle Hefty, Manager of Newport State Park, for a program about wolves. You will learn how to determine the differences between wolves, coyotes, and dogs. the building to make a simple pond viewer using recycled materials.
Then, take your viewer to one of the ponds and see what types of aquatic

- Exploring Nature: Learn to Kayak. This is the perfect program
for people who have never kayaked and would like to learn. Join
Jen Sazasma, an American Canoe Association instructor, to learn
the tricks and fun of kayaking. We will kayak around Mauthe Lake
and up the Milwaukee River. Call to register by July 10. Class limit
is eight people without equipment for each session. No experience
is necessary. The program is best for people over the age of 10
years. In the event of threatening weather, the program will be
canceled. Mauthe Lake Recreation Area Boat Launch. 9:30 a.m. - noon
or 1-3:30 p.m.
- Drop In at the Beach: Hurray for Herps! Many snakes, turtles,
frogs, toads and salamanders make Wisconsin their home. Meet a few
of these wondrous creatures up close and learn about their unique
adaptations. Everyone is invited to drop in for a few minutes or
more than an hour for some nature fun. Adults are encouraged to
participate with their children. Mauthe Lake Recreation Area Beach.

- Wisconsin Turtles. Wisconsin is home to a wide variety
of turtles. Randy Hetzel, naturalist, will share the unique adaptations
of these remarkable reptiles and what habitat requirements they
need to survive. You may even have the opportunity to meet some
live turtles. This program is best for adults and children over
the age of 8 years. Ice Age Visitor Center. 7-8:30 p.m.

- Kite Building Workshop. Join in the fun of making and decorating
a pocket sled kite during either of the workshop sessions, then
head right out the door to fly the kite on the beach. Best for children
12 and under; 4-year olds will need parental help. $4 charge per
kite kit. Call to register for a session. Park shelter in campground.

- The Moon: Observing the Craters and Mares. Take a break
in the candlelight hike to join NASA Ambassador Kevil Koski for
an exciting evening observing our moon. Find out where the Apollo
mission landed a see some of the craters and mountains on the moon.
Learn fun facts about our nearest neighbor and what life would be
like without the moon. Please bring chair or blanket and dress for
an evening on the beach. No pets allowed. Best for ages 8 and up.
North Beach. 8-10:30 p.m.
- Summer Candlelight Hike. Enjoy a self-guided hike along the
beach and wander the sand dunes along the cordwalk. The trail is lit
with tiki torches for this annual summer event. Refreshments served
at Sanderling Nature Center. Sorry, no pets or strollers allowed on
the hike. Park at Sanderling Nature Center or North Beach lots. 8:30-10:30
p.m.
- MacKenzie Environmental
Education Center, Poynette, (608) 635-8105 - Outdoor Skills
Day. A free public program focusing on outdoor skills. A variety
of hands-on skill areas such as fishing, archery, outdoor cooking, prairie
walk, shooting sports, and nature hikes, will be set up for the entire
family to enjoy. A concession stand will be available from 11a.m. to
2 p.m. Sponsored by Wisconsin Wildlife

- Venture Into the Night Hike: Night Sounds. As the sun sets
and the light fades from the sky, the day animals retire and a new group
of animals awakens. We will explore the world of the crepuscular (active
at dusk and dawn) and nocturnal (active at night) animals. Bring your
insect repellent and sense of adventure. Meet at Long Lake Recreation
Area Picnic Shelter. 8:30-10 p.m.
- Nature Storytime: Fluffy, Puffy Clouds. Lie back and watch
the clouds float by. Come learn how these fluffy, puffy clouds are formed
and what may fall from them. This hour of nature fun awaits 3- to 6-year-olds

- Exploring Nature: Fishing Fun. Experienced anglers will
share their knowledge on how to bait a hook, cast a line and reel
in fish. If you're lucky, you may even learn to clean the fish you
catch. Bring your fishing gear, if you have some. A limited number
of rods and reels will be available and bait is provided. People
over the age of 16 will need to have a valid Wisconsin fishing license

- Gray Wolves: The True Story. Wisconsin has been a historic
home for gray wolves. With Jerry Sanders, delve into the amazing
lives of these incredible animals lead. We also learn how they are
recovering after being extirpated from the state and what the next
steps will be in sustaining a healthy population of gray wolves
in the Great Lakes region. This program is most appropriate for
