Visit the DNR exhibits at this year's Wisconsin State Fair--a green oasis in the midst of the souvenir stands, amusement rides, food stands and loud music of the fairgrounds.     • Venture Into the Night Hike: Birds of the Night. As the sun sets and the light fades from the sky, the day animals retire and a new group of animals awakens. Visitors to Kohler-Andrae are invited to join camp members as they re-enact life as it was in the early to mid 1800s. Demonstrations and activities happen as interest develops.     • Wisconsin's Frogs - Sunset Serenade. Each spring Wisconsin's frogs and toads announce their presence with a musical choir. Learn about these amphibians without tails and the songs they sing. Web weavers, wolf spiders, and daddy longlegs are all eight-legged animals, but they find food in very different ways. Explore the lives of some of these hunters.     • Exploring Nature: Fishing Fun. Experienced anglers will share their knowledge on how to bait a hook, cast a line and reel in fish. If you're lucky, you may even learn to clean the fish you catch. Bring your fishing gear, if you have some. A limited number of rods and reels will be available and bait is provided. People over the age of 16 will need to have a valid Wisconsin fishing license to fish. Mauthe Lake Recreation Area Fishing Pier. 9:30-11:30 a.m.

    • The Joy of Nature Journals. A nature journal is a great way to remember your outdoor experiences. From the forest naturalists, discover some tips on keeping a journal and ways to get started. During the last portion of the program, each participant will be able to make his or her own hand-bound journal. To ensure plenty of supplies, call by August 15. This program is best for adults and youth over the age of 8 years. Ice Age Visitor Center. 7-8:30 p.m.

    • Kite Building Workshop. Join in the fun of making and decorating a pocket sled kite during either of the workshop sessions, then head right out the door to fly the kite on the beach. Best for children 12 and under; 4-year-olds will need parental help. $4 charge per kite kit. Call to register for a session. Park shelter in campground. 10 and 11 a.m.
    • The Sands of Kohler-Andrae: Sand Stories, Games and Craft. Volunteer naturalist Chris Lilek will reveal the history and source of Kohler-Andrae State Park beach sand through stories, games and a craft. Bring the family and prepare to get down and dirty in the sand. No pets allowed. Beach near bath house. 3-4 p.m.
    • Phoenix Lander Mars Mission. NASA Ambassador Kevin Koski will give a presentation on the Phoenix Lander spacecraft which landed on the northern plains of Mars in May. Kevin will explain its mission, its finds, and new discoveries and answer questions. Best for age 8 and over. No pets allowed. Sanderling Nature Center. 7 p.m.
  • Potawatomi State Park, Sturgeon Bay, (920) 746-2890 or e-mail - Geocaching. Learn the basics of geocaching at Potawatomi State Park. This two-hour program will begin with an introduction to geocaching followed by hands-on experience locating temporary caches. GPS units will be provided. This is a program for all ages and parents are encouraged to join their children. Meet at the Potawatomi Amphitheater. 9:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.

    • Lake Michigan Shipwrecks. Meet local historian Steve Radovan to hear about the discovery and identification of the Schooner Gallinipper, built in 1833 and sunk in 1851. The ship lies 215 ft. below the surface in Lake Michigan off Hika Bay in Manitowoc County. No pets allowed. Sanderling Nature Center. 7 p.m.

  • Kettle Moraine State Forest—Northern Unit, Campbellsport, (920) 533-8322 or e-mail - Outdoor Adventure: Biking Through Habitats. Hop on your bicycle to peddle at a leisurely pace along the new bike trail between Mauthe Lake and Dundee. As we peddle we will investigate the natural habitats traversed by the trail. This will be about an 8-mile round trip. Provide your own bicycle, helmet and other bicycling gear. In the event of severe weather, the program will be canceled. This adventure is for people over the age of 12 years. Meet at the Mauthe Lake Recreation Area Beach Parking Lot. 6-8 p.m.

    • Summer Star Gazing. Look through a telescope or binoculars to bring into focus the wonders of the night sky. With the help of the Northern Cross Science Foundation experienced night sky observers, spy distant planets, dumb-bell nebulas, globular clusters and so much more. The program will be held only if the skies are clear. This program is best for adults and children over the age of 8 years. Ice Age Visitor Center. 9:15-10:45 p.m.

    • Bats and Humans Need Each Other. Bats are among the best friends we humans ever had. Janet Raddatz will share her knowledge of these special creatures.
