Mark Harings
Mark Harings holds a BS in Wildlife Management from U.W. Stevens Point. Prior to his current appointment with the Bureau of Cooperative Environmental Assistance he spent 8 years working with Fisheries on hydroelectric dam relicensing projects, waste management on solid waste complaints, landfill closure inspections, waste tire program and solid waste facility licensing, and in air management in the Refrigerant Recovery Program. He has spent much time working with the Auto Recycling and Scrap and Waste Industry in bringing their facilities into compliance.
Mark has been with the Bureau of Cooperative Environmental Assistance since 1997. He is currently assigned to work with the Auto Recycling and Scrap and Waste Recycling facilities in the state as a Business Sector representative. Pollution Prevention and cooperative compliance efforts are currently underway in dealing with Stormwater and Mercury issues at these facilities. Marks other duties are working as Project Manager on a Cooperative Environmental Agreement with Northern Engraving Corporation as part of the Environmental Cooperation Pilot Program. "My experience in working both in the regulatory part of the DNR and now a non-regulatory Bureau has shown me so far that neither should exist without the other. Our partnerships with industries willing to make that extra effort to pursue superior environmental performance need to be supported by strong enforcement of those that continue to put environmental protection as a low priority in their operations." He can be reached by phone at (715) 831-3263 or by e-mail at Mark.Harings@wisconsin.gov.
