Winsert, Inc. Green Tier - Tier 1 Participant

Founded in 1977, Winsert, Inc. of Marinette, WI has become a world leading original equipment manufacturer of heat and wear resistant products by utilizing its own proprietary alloys. Winsert uses lean techniques and waste minimizing programs to help sustain its successful Environmental Management System, which was ISO 14001 certified in May 2003. In addition to its standard recycling program, Winsert aggressively finds alternative ways to reuse process wastes. Foundry sand is sent out to be made into asphalt, grindings are smelted to recover metals, and machining chips are processed into reusable ingots. Once a large quantity generator of hazardous waste, Winsert is now a small quantity generator, and as a Green Tier participant expects to eliminate all hazardous waste generation by the end of 2007. By using the latest technologies, Winsert also plans to eliminate its process waste water while significantly reducing its fresh water use. Green Tier will enhance Winsert’s already mature EMS and provide further tools to lead by example and raise the environmental standard for other companies.
