Community Wardening - 2005 youth turkey hunt draws record numbers

Northeast Region , Wis. – The 6th annual youth turky hunt had record participation out of Marion and Shawano this year. Approximately of 82 kids and women harvested 26 Toms. The group included 7 special needs kids (including some terminal cancer patients) from out of state. One girl who could not use a firearm due to brain surgery, used a crossbow permit to shoot at 7 Toms running in and out of the decoys. She was able to shoot at 2 different birds, narrowly missing both.

A youth turkey hunt was also held out of Waupaca. 28 kids shot 15 Toms, the biggest weighing in at 26.11 pounds. Everybody saw birds and the weather couldn't have been better. Everybody had a good time and are planning on next years hunt.
