Bureau of Law Enforcement
Life Saving Award

Presented to:

Jesse Ashton

For his service on July 16, 2000
Warden Ashton was checking fishing licenses along the south pier in the Racine Harbor when he observed a boat with 9 people on board sink approximately 100 yards out into Lake Michigan. Warden Ashton summoned the Racine Sheriff's Dept. boat for assistance while donning his life jacket. Ashton then swam to the boat and with the assistance of several other boaters and the Racine County boat patrol, was able to rescue all the boaters. The occupants of the boat ranged in age from 2 to 31. Only the 2-year old toddler was wearing a PFD (personal flotation device).
