During the spring of 1997 Wardens Falstad and Meister were working
together when they received a call of an overturned fishing
boat on the Wisconsin River south of the DuBay Dam. The call
noted that three people fishing were overboard. Due to spring
flooding, the river was running very high and wild. The wardens
operated a boat to the area under extremely dangerous conditions
and located an overboard fisherman floating in the river.
The fisher was transported to an EMT unit and airlifted to
a hospital where he later died. The remaining two fishers
were able to swim to shore.
