For his service on May 15, 2000
On the morning of May 15, 2000 Warden Gervis Myles watched
two young men involved in a struggle with a woman seated
in a car at a gas station in Milwaukee. Before he could
act or summon the police, Myles observed one of the men
shoot the female and run from the area. At great risk to
his personal safety, Myles was able to pursue the two subjects
and apprehend them at gunpoint. A pistol that had been dropped
by one of the subjects was later found. The woman sustained
a life threatening gunshot wound to the head. She survived
her wound. The subjects were convicted of attempted murder.
