When the Sun Goes Down, It's Time to Slow Down

Snowmobiling is a fun and exhilarating way to enjoy the great outdoors and spend time with family and friends. But keep the sledding fun and safe for yourself, your family and your friends. Slow down, particularly at night. Speed is a contributing factor in nearly all fatal snowmobiling accidents, so make sure your driving allows you time to react.

Speed Limit Seeks To Slow Accidents

Wisconsin has a nighttime speed limit for snowmobiling of 55 miles per hour from ½ hour after sunset until ½ hour before sunrise.

Snowmobile Headlights

Snowmobile headlights shine out only 200 feet or so. Nighttime speeds over 55 mph will cause you to over-ride your headlights and don't allow you to react in time to avoid a collision. In fact, 45 mph or slower is a better operating speed and will enable you to spot hazards and greatly increase your chances of stopping safely.
