Course InformationThe classroom boating safety course consists of a basic eight hours of classroom instruction in the principles of boating safety. Go to our upcoming classes page to view the latest classes being offered. New! Our online boating safety course (exit DNR) is now available. This class is not recommended for children under 14 years of age. If you encounter any problems with the online course, please contact Susan Holcombe at susan@boat-ed.com or call 1-800-830-2268. Who is Eligible/Required to Take a ClassWisconsin boating safety certification or out of state equivalent certification is required for operators born on or after January 1, 1989 and at least 16 years of age. Operators 12 to 15 years of age must either have a certificate or have an adult on board while operating. Anyone is eligible to take the class and receive a safety education completion certificate. For children under 12 years of age, the certificate does not become valid until the child reaches 12 years of age. (read the boating regulations for full details) Length of CourseMinimum 8 hours. May be longer depending on instructor. Class AvailabilityVaries depending on area of the state and time of the year. There is at least one class per county per year.
