All operators at least age 12 and born on or after Jan. 1, 1988 must complete an ATV Safety Certification course in order to operate on public ATV trails and areas in Wisconsin. Operators of all terrain vehicles (ATV) now have a convenient online method to receive ATV Safety Certification through an Internet Web course recently introduced by the state Department of Natural Resources. The Internet course is available at www.offroad-ed.com/wi. As an alternative, check the DNR’s Upcoming Recreational Safety Education Classes. For those who are not able to locate a boating safety course in their area, the Department now has an online boating safety course (exit DNR). This class is not recommended for children under 14 years of age.
There are currently no CD Rom or Internet classes developed at this time for Bow Hunter Safety Education.
The Department offers an optional method of certification for those that prefer a program other than the traditional hunter education course. If you would like to attend one of these courses you must:

For those who are not able to locate a snowmobile safety course in their area, the Department has created a snowmobile safety course that is available on CD-ROM. The CD course covers everything taught in the classroom and is totally self-contained, all the way down to the final exam and certification at the end. For further information or to request a copy of the Wisconsin Snowmobile Safety Certification CD-ROM, please email your name and address to lesafety@dnr.state.wi.us or phone us at 608-264-8544.
Note: CD-ROM students must be at least 16 years old in order to take the course via the CD-ROM. The CD course costs $10; payment is due at the time you return the exam results and the application to the department. Your certification will not be processed until the fee has been received.
