Reporting A Hunting Incident

A "reportable" hunting incident is any incident, while hunting or trapping, in which a person is injured or killed by gunfire or by bow and arrow.

Wisconsin law requires a person who, while hunting any wild animal or bird, discharges a firearm or arrow, and injures or kills another person, to do the following:

  1. Provide his/her name and address to the other person,

  2. Render assistance to the other person,

  3. Obtain immediate medical or hospital care, and

  4. Report the accident without delay to law enforcement officials.

Failure to comply with the above requirements is punishable by a penalty up to $5,000 or imprisonment not more than one year, or both.
