Water Quality Database for the Crandon Project

Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources staff have produced a Web-based interface to access the Department's water database for the Crandon project, enabling public access to the data that is being used by the DNR during its review of the Crandon project and generation of the environmental impact statement.

This database contains all of the available water-related monitoring information for the Crandon project site area collected by the applicant, the Department, the state and federal geological surveys, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, and others, beginning with the original permitting process in the early 1980's and continuing from the mid 1990's through present day. The database is structured such that the public can query for information on a specific sampling site, waterbody, or sample results. Information collected can easily be download or viewed graphically on a Web page. The developers of this database have ensured that the pubic does not have access to sensitive personal information. The production database is protected behind a firewall -- only a mirrored image will be accessible by the public.

This information was made Internet-accessible in order to allow interested parties (such as the Great Lakes Indian Fish and Wildlife Commission and others) an opportunity to access the information in an efficient manner. This Internet-based database is also available to meet the anticipated surge in public interest when the Draft Environmental Impact Statement is released.
