Public Attitude Research
Public Acceptance of Gypsy Moth Management Alternatives

Overview

During the past few years, the introduced, exotic gypsy moth has appeared in the Southern Unit of the Kettle Moraine State Forest. The forest has not yet experienced a gypsy moth population spike, but will likely see one if a moth control program is not soon established. This research examines the public's tolerance for various gypsy moth control methods and attempts to assess their preferred method.

Methods

This is a qualitative study. A minimum of one focus group is being conducted with each of the following groups: homeowners within the forest boundaries, overnight campers, day users (e.g., hikers, picnickers), mountain bikers, and an equestrian group.

Status

This study was completed in 2002 and is available as a published final report [PDF 953KB].
