It is a deep, clear water lake with a fish population of muskellunge, northern pike, walleyes, largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, bluegills, perch, black crappies, rock bass, pumpkinseed, warmouth, and bullheads. Rough fish include white suckers, redhorse, and longnose gar. Most of the lakeshore is upland hardwood, with small areas of brush swamp and bog. About 40 percent of the littoral bottom is muck. Waterfowl use is quite extensive with mallards, wood ducks, black ducks, and blue-winged teal known to nest here. Muskrat are also common. Private development consists of 21 cottages. A public access is located on the southwest corner of the lake. Public frontage amounts to 0.53 mile of shoreline owned by Rusk County. This outlet stream has an estimated normal flow of approximately 2.0 cfs. There is a dam with a 7-foot head at the outlet. Walleyes are abundant in the lake, and both muskellunge and northern pike are common. Other species common to the lake include largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, bluegills, black crappie, rock bass, pumpkinseed, bullheads, white suckers, and longnose gar. Most of the shoreline is upland hardwood, but bog and swamp are present at the inlet from McCann Lake and in several other sites. Sand comprises about 45 percent of the littoral bottom zone, gravel 40 percent, rock 5 percent and muck 10 percent. Mallards, bluewinged teal, and wood ducks nest here, and the lake receives rather extensive use by other migrating waterfowl. Muskrats are also common. Public frontage consists of 0.02 mile of shoreline owned by Rusk County, 0.01 mile by the Town of Big Bend, and two undeveloped platted access road on the north side of the lake. Its fish population consists of muskellunge, northern pike, walleyes, largemouth bass, bluegills, perch, black crappie, rock bass, pumpkinseed, and bullheads. Rough fish include white suckers, redhorse, and carp. The bay east of CTH "N" has an abundant weed growth, and the lake is subject to algae blooms. About 60 percent of the shoreline is upland hardwood, with the remainder being wetlands of conifer swamp. The littoral bottom is mostly muck, with small areas of rubble and gravel. The extensive wetlands provide good habitat for the waterfowl that use the lake for nesting and during migration. Few furbearers are present. There are 8 resorts and 38 cottages on the lake. Public frontage includes 0.25 mile owned by Rusk County, 0.01 mile owned by the State of Wisconsin. There are two public accesses, one near the outlet dam and another with limited parking space on the north side of the lake. |

Chain Lake |

Its inlet stream is Cedar Creek flowing from Long Lake. Fish populations consist of a variety of species walleyes and bluegills are most common. Next are muskellunge, northern pike, largemouth bass, perch, black crappies and rock bass. Other species present include smallmouth bass, pumpkinseeds, warmouth bass, black bullheads, white suckers and longnose gar. The lake has some importance as a waterfowl resting place where puddle and diving ducks, coots and occasionally Canada geese stop. Muskrats are present and ducks using the area for nesting are mallards, blue-winged teal, wood ducks and hooded mergansers. Loon also use the lake for nesting. Access to the lake is had by a navigable water course between Chain Lake and McCann Lake. It has no road access. Private development includes four resorts, a boat rental place, 73 cottages and dwellings and one Rod and Gun Club camp.
