River and Stream Narratives of the Upper Chippewa BasinBelow are narrative descriptions for waters for which we have a description on file. Not all waters in the basin are listed below. Papoose CreekPapoose Creek is classifled as a Class II and III trout stream. Beaver and beaver dams throughout the stream are affecting its overall quality. A 1984 aerial survey located at least 26 beaver dams. Beaver will continue to be a problem until the WDNR is given permission by the Papoose Creek Hunting Club to remove beavers and dams from their property. Salsich CreekSalsich Creek is classified as a Class III trout stream. WDNR lacks water quality data on Salsich Creek. Siphon CreekSiphon Creek is classifled as a Class II trout stream. WDNR lacks water quality data on Siphon Creek. Trout RiverTrout River is a small warm water river classified as a warm water sport fishery. The Trout River contains a rich assemblage of fish species in its upper 7.5 kilometer reach. In this stretch of river threatened species such as the pugnose shiner, greater redhorse and northern longear sunflsh can be found. Also found here are the banded killfish and fantail darter which are rare in north central Wisconsin. Part of the Trout River was approved by the Natural Resource Board in January 1993 for classification as an Outstanding Resource Water under NR 102. Last Revised: Thursday March 06 2008
