Milton Cougar was the same as Chicago Cougar
On January 4, 2008, a motorist driving northeast of Milton, Wisconsin saw a cougar run in front of his vehicle on his drive home on Friday evening. He returned to the scene to take photos the next day, but because of overnight snow, tracks at the site could not be confirmed as cougar by WDNR biologists.
On January 18, 2008, just 2 miles away, a trapper investigated some large tracks in an old barn, and spooked a cougar from the second floor. The cougar cut one of its toes as it jumped out of the barn. A drop of blood it left behind in one of its foot prints allowed the WDNR to determine from DNA that the cougar was a male, of North American origin, and most likely from South Dakota. This was the first confirmed wild cougar in Wisconsin in 100 years. For the next 2 months the cougar roamed portions of Rock and Walworth Counties, Wisconsin, and signs were observed in several locations.
By late March it apparently had left the state and was observed in North Chicago, Illinois. It eventually traveled south into Chicago and was killed by Chicago police in a densely populated residential area on April 14, 2008. The timeline and movements on this Midwest cougar are listed below.
