Kettle Moraine State Forest--Northern Unit
The Wisconsin Ice Age in the Kettle Moraine

At the Ice Age Visitor Center, groups will be introduced to the Wisconsin stage of the last Ice Age through a staff introduction, "Night of the Sun" movie (20 minutes), and center exhibits. After visiting the center for about an hour, groups visit on their own the Dundee Mountain Summit Trail (1 mile on glacial history), Butler Lake (kettle lake and esker), Parnell Tower (60-foot observation tower), and/or the Greenbush Kettle (observation platform and stairs into the kettle).

  • E.8.5 Analyze the geologic and life history of the earth

Special instructions

Come dressed for the weather with good footwear. Some of the sites are rugged and require hiking up and down hills.

In warm weather, bring water and insect repellent.

There are restrooms and picnic sites throughout the forest.
