Hartman Creek State Park Conditions

Conditions as of Wednesday, May 7, 2008:

Trails

All hiking, horse, off-road biking and hiking trails are open. Please call ahead for updated information.

A state trail pass is required for those persons age 16 years and older who use the horse and off-road biking trails.

Camping

The entire family campground is open. Only one of the shower buildings by Site 23 is open. The second shower building will open May 23. Camping rates are $15/night/resident and $17/night/non-resident. Electrical sites (21 and 65-87) cost $5 more per night.

Any firewood brought in from more than 50 miles away will be confiscated due to the potential of carrying emerald ash borers.

Reserve a campsite for 2 days to 11 months from now using the Web or by calling (888) 947-2757, TTY (800) 274-7275. Sites may be reserved for these 2008 dates:

Day Use Area

Whispering Pines day use picnic area is open for the season. Picnic tables and a toilet facility are available on this 30-acre parcel on the upper Chain O'Lakes.

Fishing

The lakes in the park are spring-fed. Perch, bluegill and largemouth bass are the primary fish species.

Nature

Sandhill cranes have been back for a couple weeks, gliding over the treetops or standing in open fields. Their loud cries can be heard throughout the day. Robins and canada geese can also be seen, shivering at times, due to the still ever-present cold winter temperatures that do not want to leave this year.

Vehicle Admission Stickers

Vehicle admission stickers for 2008 are available now, and are valid through December 31.
