Governor Thompson State Park Conditions

Conditions as of Saturday, November 14, 2009:

Hunting

The state park is open to for deer hunting only during the regular 9-day season, November 21-29. The state park will not be open for any youth hunts, archery, herd control chronic wasting disease (CWD), or earn-a-buck hunts.

Small game and waterfowl hunting is not permitted.

Lakes and Boat Landings

Inland lakes are open for canoes and kayaks, and the boat landing on Caldron Falls is open.

New Access Road: The additional mileage to Paust Lane is open. Anglers wishing to use South Bay or Boat Landing 13 will have to use the Ranch Road entrance to the state park. The old road to boat landing 13 is closed off to vehicular traffic from the intersection with Fabian Lane. A state park sticker is required to use the boat landing.

Trails

The 16-mile trail system is open. It's a great time to go hiking and maybe even check a geocache along the way.

Facilities

Construction has begun on the new visitor center for the state park and Peshtigo River State Forest. The new building will should take about a year to be built. This is the first building to be built as part of a $3.5 million construction project at the park.

The Woods Lake day-use area is open and has picnic tables and benches to enjoy a peaceful lunch or to simply enjoy the seasonal changes around the lake. No camping is available; the park is open only for day use at this time.

Shelter

See the new enclosed shelter building at Woods Lake. The new shelter will be available as a warming area for cross-country skiers, ice fishermen and kids using the sledding hill in the winter. The new shelter also is available for rent for family or social gatherings.
