Copper Falls State Park Conditions
Conditions as of Monday, August 31, 2009: Summer is beginning to fade as the first signs of Fall are showing. A few trees are beginning to change colors in anticipation for the brilliant fall color display that will take place in about four weeks. September through October is one of the most spectacular times to visit Copper Falls State Park. Trails—Trails are open and in good condition. Pet owners are reminded that pets must be leashed at all times. Events—On Saturday, September 26, 2009, Copper Falls is celebrating 80 years as a Wisconsin State Park with cake, a short program, and a tour to the recently re-opened observation tower beginning at 11 am. The Friends of Copper Falls State Park is sponsoring the annual Art and Crafts in the Park from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. and will also be having a silent auction to raise funds for a new shelter building. Camping—Camping remains popular through mid-October at Copper Falls. If an electric site is desired, a reservation is recommended. Make your reservation online or by calling (888) 947-2757. Check regulations regarding transporting firewood. Firewood originating from beyond 50 miles of the park is prohibited. Rivers and Lakes—We have received significant rainfall in the last few weeks that has brought the Bad River water levels up. See the U.S. Geological Survey's page about the river [exit DNR] for provisional data about stream discharge, water level, precipitation, and water quality at Elm Hoist Road downstream from the park.
