Council Grounds State Park Conditions

Conditions as of Saturday, June 21, 2008:

Hiking trails are in good condition. The mosquitoes are plentiful in the park; please come prepared with repellents.

The campground has not been affected by recent rains.

A few visitors have been braving the cold water to swim at the beach. Walleye, musky, perch and northern are all being caught on Lake Alexander. The water level on both the lake and river are at an average depth. However, the waters levels below the dam may be dropped due to repairs on the dam in Merrill. The lake water levels should not be affected.

We have had a lot of new additions to the park this spring. Fawns, baby geese, ducklings, snapping turtle hatchlings, two bear cubs, and four red fox kits have all been seen within the park.

Candlelight hikes are scheduled for the fall of 2008. Please see the events calendar.

Volunteers are needed for spring clean-up: raking, garbage pick-up, and trail maintenance. If you are interested please contact Sara Gossfeld-Benzing, (715) 536-8773.

The shelter house road has been made a one-way road. Please observe this traffic sign and all others in the park. Visitors are welcome to park at the contact station, until the contact station opens, but you must have a Wisconsin State Parks admission sticker. You can buy stickers at the self-registration box on the flagpole. Thank you for your cooperation.
