Conditions at Yellowstone Lake State ParkConditions as of Wednesday, May 20, 2009:
Trails: All trails are open and were mowed on Monday. Camping: The campground is open. All reservable sites are taken for Memorial Day weekend. We do have a few first-come, first-served sites still available. Lake: The beach is open and the lake is open to boating. There is a boat rental and bait shop available on the lake. Fishing: Fishing has been fair. Pan fish are picking up (spawning) as the weather warms. Bass have been slow as have musky and northern. Walleye have been good, just not many in the slot size. Yellowstone Lake has specific fishing regulations. Make sure you read the 2009-2010 Wisconsin Fishing Regulations prior to fishing on Yellowstone Lake. Nature: Birding has been exceptional. Bluebirds are at all stages from eggs to fledglings. A new purple martin house has been erected. A nesting pair of bald eagles are raising two eaglets in a nest along the shore of the lake. The exciting find was the observation of a Henslow's sparrow along one of our trails. A sighting of this particular sparrow is uncommon and the population is declining. Naturalist Programs in June include: June 6 - Bats in Hibernation Concessions: The Lafayette Dairy Bar Restaurant and Yellowstone Lake Bait & Tackle (including boat rentals) will be open daily from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. beginning Memorial Day weekend. Firewood is available outside the east entrance to the park at Four Seasons, (608) 523-1543. Firewood burned in Wisconsin DNR campgrounds must originate from within the state and within 50 miles of the campsite. For more information ask Yellowstone Lake State Park, (608) 523-4427. Last Revised: Friday May 29 2009
