Buckhorn State Park ConditionsConditions as of Wednesday, November 18, 2009 The park is open for hiking and camping. Blaze orange clothing is recommended. Timber is being cut in the Yellow River Wildlife Area along 18th Avenue. HuntingThe park and wildlife areas are open for the early bow deer season, and deer can be registered at the park office. During the November 21-29 season, gun deer hunting will be allowed in the Yellow River Wildlife Area and not in the park or new park land. Waterfowl, small game hunting and trapping are allowed only in the Yellow River and Buckhorn wildlife areas and fall turkey hunting only in the Yellow River Wildlife Area. New maps are available online [PDF 299KB] and at the park office that show the land that was acquired last fall which is now state park land. People with disabilities can reserve an accessible deer hunting blind and two accessible waterfowl blindss. If not reserved, the blinds are first-come, first-served. Buckhorn State Park Hunting Information Fishing and BoatingThe accessible fishing pier and boat boarding piers have been removed for the season. Park stickers are required at launches C and D, along Water Street, and parking lot D before the bridge (small lot). There are no additional launch fees. Please use the self-registration box or stop at the park office. CampingSites 8,9, and 16 and group campsites A1-A4, A6-A8 and B1-B3 are open to camping and are first-come, first-served. All other sites are closed for the season. You can reserve sites for dates up to 11 months in advance. Any firewood brought in from more than 50 miles away or from a quarantined area [PDF, 102KB] or from out of state will be confiscated due to the potential of carrying harmful emerald ash borers [exit DNR]. Firewood is available at the park office. The accessible cabin is closed for the season. Applications for the cabin for 2010 will be accepted beginning January 10. Two picnic shelters are available for reservations. The north and south shelters both have electricity and are reservable. Get water at the office during open office hours. The Friends of Buckhorn is always looking for new members and meets the first Tuesday of each month. The 2010 photo contest is open. Categories are photographs of people using the park, plants, animals, an open category, and one for photographers under age 18. Annual stickers for 2009 are available now and are valid through December 31, 2009. If you self-register for an annual sticker it will be mailed to you. Related Links
