Buckhorn State Park Conditions

Conditions as of Tuesday, June 23, 2008:

Nature

Mosquitoes are abundant in the park, so bring insect repellent. Lake breezes kept the mosquitos away at times at campsites.

A black bear was spotted in several areas in the park last Wednesday and Thursday (from beach heading to canoe launch and by the group camp dumpster). Please secure your food when camping at the park

Camping

All campsites are open and dry. Most campsites are reservable and fill up fast for the weekend. We have three non-reservable, first-come, first-served sites.

Showers are available for a fee at local vendors.

You can reserve sites for these 2008 dates, two days to 11 months in advance:

Sites Through
1-29, A1-A4, A6-A8, B1-B3 October 5
30-33, 38-45 September 21

We still have single-night stay dates in September and October available for our accessible cabin .

To prevent the spread of harmful insects, state parks and forests prohibit firewood from anywhere more than 50 miles away or from outside the state. Firewood is available at the park office.

A bluegill caught by Andrew Wiebusch and donated by Anthony Knipfer is displayed in the park office.
