Perrot State Park Conditions

Conditions as of Friday, October 23, 2009:

Trails and Roads

Reconstruction of Sullivan Road from Trempealeau into the park has begun. Lane restrictions and road closures can be expected through the end of October. Campers should consider taking the North Road into the park. Call the park (608) 534-6409 for details.

Camping

The flush toilet/shower buildings are closed for the season. The only drinking water available is at the Maintenance Shop. The dump station is open for campers to dump but no water is available to flush. Call the park if you have questions.

Reserve a campsite by using the Web or calling (888) 947-2757, TTY (800) 274-7275 ((888) WI-PARKS).

Nature

Fall colors should peak this weekend. Maples and sumac continue to blaze red, although the leaves are dropping rapidly. The bay is beginning to open up as the sedges and arrowhead die back for winter. A few asters are still hanging on in the woods and prairies. Nodding lady's tresses [exit DNR] are blooming on the goat prairies.

Sandhills are still heard in the bay area and pelicans are flying over in large flocks now. Juncos [exit DNR] have appeared at the Nature Center and migrant warblers are found in the shrubs.

Woodchucks [exit DNR] also seem to be packing on the pounds and are still seen waddling around the park.

Regularly scheduled naturalist programs have ended for the season. If you would like to be added to the event e-mail list, please e-mail the park.

River

Water levels are low and fishing is slow.

The dock has been removed for the season.

A specially adapted kayak is available for use by people with disabilities.
