Camping at Big Bay State ParkRegular (Family) CampsitesBig Bay State Park has 60 campsites, 51 of them reservable. There are showers and flush toilets but no electrical hookups. Seven sites are walk-in sites, each about 300 yards from the parking area. Reservations and detailed site descriptions are available online [exit DNR] or by calling a (888) WIPARKS (947-2757) toll-free. Reservations are available for seven days a week late May through Labor Day weekend and also the Wednesday through Sunday nights that include the dates of the Bayfield Apple Festival [exit DNR] in early October. Outdoor Group CampThere also is an outdoor group camp for groups of up to 20 people. The group site is about a half mile from the regular campground and has a modest view of Lake Superior. It has its own hand pump and pit toilet. Reservations for the outdoor group camp must be made by calling or writing directly to the park, (715) 747-6425. Indoor Group CampA rustic indoor group camp near the lagoon can accommodate up to 20 members of authorized nonprofit groups. You can buy food and supplies in La Point, 7 miles from the park. You must set up your camp unit (tent or screenhouse), on the designated tent pad. Wheeled campers and vehicles must be parked on the campsite driveway/spur road. If you decide to stay longer than you said when you registered, you must get an extension at the contact office before 6 p.m. on the day before your permit expires.
