Winter Recreation at Governor Dodge State Park

Winter pays special dividends for those visitors who are willing to meet a Wisconsin winter head on. All you need is an extra layer of clothes and you’re ready to explore and enjoy to your heart’s content.

Many spectacular rock outcroppings and secluded valleys that are not visible during the summer now mysteriously appear on the landscape. Now is a great time to check these areas out and observe the park’s wildlife as well.

Winter Camping

More than 30 campsites in the Twin Valley campground are maintained for winter campers. Electricity, pit toilets, picnic tables, and fire rings are provided. Winter water is available at the park office and at Cox Hollow Beach. If camping is not your style, you may want to spend a day at the park and then head back at night to seek the comforts of one of the local motels.

Skiing

Eighteen miles of ski trails are groomed and tracked as conditions permit. The varying terrain offers challenges for all skiers. Flush toilets, water, tables, and grills are provided at the trailhead.

Snowmobiling

A 15-mile trail offers scenic views of this large spacious park. The park trail also connects with the 39-mile Military Ridge Trail to provide hours of riding enjoyment.

Ice Fishing

Two lakes in the park offer ice fishing opportunities throughout the winter. A bait shop is conveniently located nearby. The park does not monitor ice conditions or make recommendations as to the safety of the ice.

Skating and Sledding

A large ice skating rink is maintained at Cox Hollow Lake (weather permitting). Picnic tables, grills and toilets are close at hand.

Sledding and tobogganing are great family sports. All you really need is a hill and a friend to pull your toboggan back up the hill. The Twin Valley Beach hill is a popular spot for sledding. Pit toilets are available at the Twin Valley Boat Landing. There are plenty of hills in the park—pick one and enjoy!
