Photo of boy with magnifying glassHavenwoods State Forest is a 237-acre open, green space in the City of Milwaukee. We provide environmental education and recreation opportunities and maintain natural habitat in the urban environment.

The land includes grasslands, forest, wetland, Lincoln Creek, an urban arboretum, and yard care and garden areas. You can get bird and wildflower lists at the Environmental Awareness Center, which also has an auditorium, classrooms, displays, and a resource center. There are trails for nature study, hiking, biking, and cross-country skiing.

Havenwoods is open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily. A state park vehicle admission sticker is not required to use the park.

How to Get There

Havenwoods is on the north side of Milwaukee. From Interstate Highway 43, take Exit 78 and go west on Silver Spring Drive about 2.5 miles to North 43rd Street. Turn right on 43rd Street and go about .4 mile. North 43rd Street will merge into North Sherman Boulevard. Continue north to Douglas Avenue, the second stop light after Silver Spring. Turn left on Douglas. After one short block, you will be at the Havenwoods entrance. Continue straight ahead into the Forest.

Milwaukee County bus routes [exit DNR] 12, 30, and 59 all have bus stops within a block of the Havenwoods entrance.
