Hoffman Hills State Recreation AreaHoffman Hills State Recreation Area offers 707 acres of preserved and restored wooded hills, wetlands, and prairie traversed with hiking and cross-country ski trails. It's an excellent bird watching area.
A 60-foot-high observation tower crowns one of the highest points in Dunn County, offering spectacular views of the surrounding countryside, especially in autumn.
On a clear day, you can see for many miles from the observation tower. State park vehicle admission stickers aren't required at Hoffman Hills, but each cross-country skier age 16 and older must have a state trail pass.
Hike up the trail to the southeast from the parking lot for a view of distant farms. Things to doThere are three picnic areas in Hoffman Hills. You can gather edible nuts, mushrooms, and berries. (Do not pick other plants.) The area is open for deer hunting during the November deer gun season. In the winter, enjoy sledding, cross-country skiing, or snowshoeing. Dogs are not allowed anywhere in Hoffman Hills. Except for an outdoor group camp for organized youth groups, Hoffman Hills is limited to day use, opening at 7 a.m. and closing at 9 p.m. Contact the park office for group camp information or reservations.
