Tepee Camping
An
authentic Native American plains tepee is available for rent at Mauthe
Lake Campground from mid-May through September. Enjoy the unique opportunity
in an reproduction of an authentic Native American plains canvas tepee.
It is 16 feet in diameter and supported by 25-foot-long wooden lodge poles.
Four cots are provided. If you have more than four members in your camping
party, we suggest you bring pads or air mattresses. There is room on the
site to accommodate an additional tent if desired.

The tepee campsite is a joint project between the Kettle Moraine State
Forest and the Friends of the Kettle Moraine
(a non-profit support group dedicated to promoting greater appreciation
of State Parks and Forests). Tepee campsites are also located at Hartman
Creek, Kohler Andrae, and Devil's
Lake state parks.
Special tepee camping rules apply at the Kettle Moraine Northern Unit:
- No smoking, fuels, flames, or equipment such as stoves, gas lanterns, heaters
or candles are allowed inside of the tepee.
- NO pets allowed on tepee campsite.
- DO NOT spray insect repellent inside or near the tepee.
- This is a non-electric "tent only" site. No wheeled campers are
permitted.
Reservations are recommended from Memorial Day through Labor Day. Reservations
must be made through the

and/or campground information, ask visitors' services staff at a Mauthe
Lake Entrance Station.
