Cross-Country Skiing
Cross-country skiing is very popular. About 5 miles of trails, including
the 1.2-mile White Oak Nature Trail, are groomed and tracked when weather
and snow conditions permit. There is not a regular schedule for grooming
and tracking. Whenever possible the trails are tracked for diagonal-stride
skiers and groomed for skate skiers. When the trail is too narrow to skate,
please ski in the set track. Diagonal-stride skiers, especially beginners,
greatly appreciate a clear track.
Trails go through both prairies and woods.

Most of the ski trails are easy to moderate in difficulty. A few have hills with difficult turns. Please use caution at all times when on the trails. Ski trail conditions can change rapidly throughout the day.
Most trails are one way. For everyone's safety and enjoyment, please ski in the direction posted on the winter map [PDF 120KB].
Hiking
Pets and hiking are not allowed on the ski trails. Separate trails are available for hikers. The Oak Knoll Trail is open year round for hiking. Leashed pets are permitted.
Sledding
A sledding hill is also available at the park's beach area. When using the sledding hill, please be aware of the surface conditions. Icing will occur after moderate use. Steering is difficult under icy conditions.
The hill can be filled with sledders on nice snowy days.

Ice Fishing

Ice fishing shanties dot the frozen lake.

Lake Kegonsa offers excellent ice fishing. Panfish provide most of the fishing action, but you also may catch
some northerns and walleyes. Access to the lake from the park
in the winter months is by foot only.
More About Winter

may need to walk or ski to various areas in the park, as not all park
