Camping at New Glarus Woods

New Glarus Woods has 18 drive-in campsites in the Lead Road Circle Campground for recreational vehicle (RV), pop-up or tent camping, and 14 walk-in sites for tent camping 50 to 1000 feet along a paved trail from the parking area. Six group sites are available for groups of up to 25 persons. We offer both wooded and meadow group sites. Some group sites are tent only, others will accommodate tents, pop-ups, motor homes and RVs.

The park is open year-round. The walk-in campsites are closed November 1 through March 31.

Reservations

Reservations are strongly suggested. Reservations for camping may be made up to 11 months in advance for any state park by calling (888) WI PARKS ((888) 947-2757, TTY (800) 274-7275). You may pay by credit card (MasterCard or Visa) and get instant confirmation, or by check, and your reservation will be confirmed when the check clears. Reservations can also be made over the internet.

If you self-register for a site while the office is closed, you may have to move to another site during your stay if there is an incoming reservation.

Camp Rules

  • You may check into any unreserved, vacant campsite at any time until 11 p.m. Stop at the park office to check in before setting up on a site
  • Only two motor vehicles are allowed on each campsite. You may park only on the gravel drive of the campsite. Additional vehicles must be parked in one of the main parking lots.
  • Only one wheeled camp vehicle (a pop-up, motor home, or recreational vehicle) is allowed per site.
  • Each site in the Lead Road Circle and Walk-in campgrounds may have only one family (residing at the same household), or six total campers.
  • All guests at your site must leave the park by 11 p.m.
  • Any sound from your campsite must be quiet enough that you cannot be heard from any other site.
  • Fires must be attended at all times, contained in a fire ring or grill, and be of a moderate, safe size.
  • When washing at the drinking fountains, do not leave soap or food residue behind.
  • Do not cut any vegetation on your site. Today it may look like a marshmallow stick, but left alone it will become a tree.
  • Smoking is not allowed in any buildings at the park. This includes all rest rooms.
  • Check out time is 3 p.m. You do not have to check out at the office; just you don't leave any litter or any of your possessions at your site.
